T-bone is a 1- to 1.5-year-old Boxer/Pitt bull mix who is just about as sweet as they come. He was near his death twice, but he is too special, too charismatic, too persistent to live a long happy life. First, he was found wandering on Giant HWY in Richmond and brought to Contra Costa County Animal Services by a Good Samaritan in early December. His owners came in and told the shelter they wanted him back, but they never followed through. Betrayed, T-bone found his way into the hearts of volunteers and others at the shelter, and on his last day before being euthanized because he had run out of time, he was pulled out of the shelter by a rescue group.Thanks to Northern California Sled Dog Rescue for allowing him to be boarded under their account, he is now safe and sound as he patiently awaits a foster or his forever home! T-bone is still very new to us and we will post new info as we learn more about him. For now, what we do know is that he seems to be a nice, moderate-energy fellow that is very people-friendly. In fact, he is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet! He loves to give kisses and is a big leaner. He will lean against you for hours as you pet him. He also loves belly rubs! T-bone rides well in the car. He hops right in and hasn’t gotten sick on winding roads. He pulls a bit on leash and hasn’t quite learned to keep his feet on the floor when he goes to meet new people. But he’s still an adolescent and with the right training, he will learn better! He also gets a bit excited when he sees other dogs—pulls, whines, and sometimes barks. But, he shows absolutely no interest in small critters such as squirrels or birds, leading us to believe he may be able to learn to coexist in a home with cats.
