T minus 7 and counting Muko is the self-proclaimed Best Pressman at Lahlouh and demanded the right to run the first half of my job. The gent on the left is Bob Harris who has been shepherding my print jobs since my early Bud Plant Illustrated Book catalogs. They are holding up the first side of the first signature run through that monstrous six-color Heidelberg Press that we kept busy for nine hours today. And were not finished yet. Let me give you a progress report and an update of what to expect and when. Gilt Ive been torn between the best and the most economical ways to produce the gilt. The difference in cost is substantial, involving part of an extra day on the press (and you can see that its a BIG press). Cover proof, page proof, and Googles brand new bag. When the press isnt being used to print my 2000 copy Kickstarter dream, you might find it running solid for a week running millions of bags for the new Google Shopping Express, Its an expensive press to hi-jack for even part of another day. But the difference was a highly reflective varnish just on the gold ink or a aqueous coating over the entire page, which I felt faded the gold ink more into the background. You neednt worry about what you are going to get. Well, we can all worry just a little bit until I see the result of the varnish tomorrow afternoon. One gilt item that wont pan out so elegantly is the envelope for the portfolio. Turns out that unless I print on coated paper, the metallic ink doesnt do a very good imitation of metal. There were no glossy envelopes available in the size we needed without having them made to order. I drew the line and were getting a non-reflective flat-gold ink cover design for the envelope. Sorry. This is me being very happy! This is me being very happy! Schedule Delivery Date: August 20, 2014 Seven days from today there will be a truck in my driveway with ImageS #13, envelopes and portfolio plates ready to be signed and stuffed and mailed. The cover posters are on press right now and should be delivered by Friday. They will be digitally printed and foil stamped, in an edition of only 100. Thanks to Ray at Prodigy Press for coming to my rescue here with a solution that I could manage on my budget after I opted for all that varnish. So, watch for your Kickstarter reward before the end of August - as promised. Ill work very hard to turn everything around as quickly as I can. Those of you who ordered back issues of ImageS will receive everything in one package, so we wont have to worry about parts of your order getting lost. Everything will be shipped Priority Mail with tracking numbers and you will be notified when your reward is shipped.
