The teams are split into two groups, Groups 1 and 2 each consisting of 5 teams. Pakistan is placed along with India, Australia, West Indies and a team from Group A while Group A consists of England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and a team from Group B. There are 2 initial groups Group A and Group B each with 4 teams. Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have qualified automatically and there will be further six associate/affiliate teams who qualifies from the 2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier. The top two teams from each group, Group A & B will proceed to the Super Ten stage of the tournament. The top two teams each from the two Super Ten groups would play the semi-finals and finals, to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. The winner of this final shall be crowned world champions in Twenty20 cricket. West Indies are the defending champions, having won the 2012 edition in Sri Lanka.
