TACO BELL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: PATTERSON DB/WR DAMARRIO HAMMONDS PART OF BIG-PLAY ATTACK Taco Bell shares Black Hat Football’s commitment to high school academics and football, and the positive impact the sport has on campus and in the community. Thats one reason Taco Bell is sponsoring our Athletes of the Week. Each Monday, Black Hat will announce its three Taco Bell Athletes of the Week and award each with a $20 gift card and a Taco Bell Athlete of the Week patch to recognize their work. Well name student-athletes throughout the day and well recognize The 209s best each week through the Sac-Joaquin Section championship games. Thats 15 weeks of Taco Bell Athletes of the Week and well spread the love: We wont name the same student-athlete twice, allowing us to recognize the depth of talent in The 209. Damarrio Hammonds, Patterson Atop Black Hat Football’s list of the Top 20 Defensive Players in The 209, Hammonds showed he’s got quite an offensive game, as well. The senior, who has been offered by Weber State as a defensive back, began his big night by scooping up a rolling punt and returning it 44 yards for a TD. He added TD catches of 70 and 34 yards in the Tiger’s 47-34 win over Escalon, making a pair of spectacular catches. On his longer catch, he outjumped the near midfield and ran the rest of the way untouched. Hammonds, with nine interceptions in 2013, then sealed this victory with an interception.
