TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN We support all kinds of foolishness. The ice bucket challenge has generated more views and publicity than the previous elections, why couldnt someone come up with such a marketing strategy to raise funds in support of Michael Browns family. As intelligent Black people with a wealth of academic prowess and a united cognitive for justice, we must struggle together to do things differently than what we were taught by history and the systems we live within. Our lives are treated as inherently more invaluable, not because of who we are but merely because of the color of our skin. Today, we must say “no more” to the killing of Black people, and we must say it over and over again, with our words, with our actions, and with our dollars. We need more unity, more collaboration and more solidarity among blacks. The white community have rallied and they have put their wallets where there mouth is. They have raised in in excess of 250,000 USD in support of the murdering Darren Wilson and his Family. They have created pages and sites and bulletins in support of the institutionalized racism they have cultured themselves to believing is right. Yet, after all the uproar and the slow marches, the wailing and the gnashing of teeth, I have yet to see that type of financial support for Michael Brown. Black people, it is time we realize that singing Swing High, Swing Low, sweet Chariot, coming for to carry me home … or Amazing Grace will not avenge the shedding of innocent black blood nor will that sort of reverberant submission prevent such recurrence. We should have learned by now that we cannot fight racism with racism, the best way to fight racism is with solidarity. Alas, we do not have that type of solidarity and commitment among us. The Kobe Bryants, the Usain Bolts, the Lebron James, the Michael Jordans, where are their voices? The Brown Family dont need sympathy and empathy, they need action. Instead of buying the Rolex watches, the spinning chrome rims, the new curved 75” flat screens, can some professional athlete set one precedence by donating something to the Brown family so they can hire a better defense team and have a more probable representation? Every time someone is unjustly killed, we do the same foolishness. So predictable. Walk up and down in the hot sun, Sharpton comes on TV talking bullshit, some Christian Groups hold vigils and have sweet communion in Prayer, the Officers walk free after Court and they live to shoot another unarmed negro next year. Anyway, one thing I can tell you …. If you keep doing what youve always done, youll keep getting what youve always gotten. Need to change gears and employ a new strategy.
