TAKING CARE OF YOUR BRAIDS/WEAVES/CORNROWS. (PS) Hi ladies, lets really talk on how to take care of your PS, what to do before going in for one, and what to do after you take off, in other to minimize shedding and breakage. Some people believe that braiding/weave/cornrow do make their hair grow, actually it only helps the hair maintain its length while in a ps. your hair grows same length as it will with or without a PS. so lets go through what we should and what we should not be doing when we got one of these PS on. Firstly, having braids/ weave/ cornrow, does not mean less hair care maintenance, some people do these braids, and just abandon the TLC of the hair, and leave it for months, this will only lead to breakage when you taking it off. Also if your hair is in such a bad shape, trust me braiding it in that condition will only make the situation go worst if not same. some of us tend to loose all the new growth we have had, during the taking off time, so question is whats the point to have kept that braid that long only to end up with a stand still situation if not a worst one? so ladies this post is to guide us all. - Firstly, make sure your hair is in a very gud condition before you braid/weave/cornrow. meaning ensure your hair is not too dry, brittle and breaking, if you PS in that condition, you will only have massive hair loss when you take down PS. so ensure you strenghten your strands with a hard protein dc, then follow it with a moisture dc then you LOC, before you go in for the braids. - Secondly, make sure the extensions your adding is not too heavy, let the extension not be more than the hair portion, else it will pull on your hair and weight it down thus breakage, the hair portion to be braided should equal or be more than the extension being attached to it, very important. let the length not be too long than the actual length of your hair, make a floor rolling braid when your hair is only a TwA, is not a very gud idea, that whole extension will be pulling on your poor twa, even if the hair does not break from roots, you will have massive shedding. - Also, do not braid your baby hair, you know those delicate strands infront? please let it be, some of us say our face will not be shinning if we do not include them in the braid, my question is what do you prefer? shinning face that will lead to no hair infront or protect your frontline? i go for protecting my frontline. what i do is i use edge control or gel to lay my baby hair, i rather have them laid than chopped. Then with your braids/weave/cornrow, you need to take care of it in other to avoid, build ups thus itches and dandruff. wash your hair once in every two weeks, i prefer to wash once in a week, which is still ok, but once in a week is like what you have to do. Alternate shamwash and cowash. with braids/weave/cornrow on, washing requires a slightly different technique. put 1 part of shampoo/conditioner with 2 parts of water in an applicator bottle, apply on your scalp, then using your finger tips, you can massage so it lathers, then you now let water run through the hair, you can use baking soda paste to cleanse scalp in same manner as well, or use a cleansing shampoo. Deep condition your hair, weekly or twice a week, its up to you, but dont leave the hair with no deep conditioning, this will so reduce the amount of hair you will shed at when taking off. the essence is to keep the hair moisturized and strong in a ps to eliminate or minimize breakage. oil your scalp atleast once a week, to avoid having dry scalp which could lead to flaky scalp and dandruff. Spritz daily, and use water based leave in as well, allow the hair to hair dry properly. Use little or no hair butter( shea butter), if using make sure you massage so it gets absorbed. Do a protein dc when you take off. when taking off apply conditioner on your hair, then you take off, detangle, do a dc then apply loc method as well. yes my sugars even with PS we need to up our game in other not to loose that much hair. love u all hugs NHB admin SAN
