TALES OF EBOLA FROM HARPER Harper , Maryland County is probably the only county in Liberia that is yet to directly report any case of Ebola . This they say was due to a robust Task Force that ensured that people were educated about the virus , that an effective tracking and surveillance mechanism was in place in addition to stringent checks at all entry and exit points to and from the County. However, the challenges dealing with an Ebola virus that is new to this part of Africa abound : During a just concluded visit to the county, I was told and noticed the following: Complacency has crept in. For most people , Ebola is a Monrovia thing and so , life has to go on . Just on Sunday , I saw three funeral processions ( with no Ebola burial protocol ) , the beaches later that same evening were jam- packed. At night , the hanging spots were also crowded and touching and holding were clearly on display. Traveling from Harper to Plebo, you will notice a lot of jerry cans and buckets that where supposed to contain water and chlorine ( or soap ) but in all of the stops I made , villagers cry that they have water but no soap let alone chlorine. This is a hard fight and we need to up the ante despite reports that the virus is stemming in Liberia
