TALK IT OVER The power of communication in the home cannot be overemphasized.Through it,difficult situations are resolved and doubts are cleared. Through it,malice,fighting,high-blood pressure and divorce are avoided; while joy,peace,progress and answers to prayers are experienced. Communication can never be too much in a family. This is because every aspect of the home depends largely on the abilities of the husband, wife and children to communicate effectively with each other. Botling up issues often creates a gulf of dissatisfaction,which ultimately breeds discord and dejection. But constant communication in the home will result in growth of understanding and affection,increase of trust and intimacy,as well as relief and healing where there has been a hurt. WHAT TO TALK ABOUT There are a number of things that couples need to frequently discuss together. These include: *Plans and aspirations. You must carry your spouse along on your goals,aspirations and desires for your home. *Upbringing of children. It is the collective responsibility of both the husband and the wife.So,talk about it. *Offences. When this occurs,you should be willing to speak about it in love instead of sulking,nagging and murmuring about it. *Finance. The way money comes in and goes out and what it is used for should also be planne together. *Your relationship. You should talk about yourselves as often as possible. *Every other area of interest concerning your home. Never neglect any. WAYS TO TALK IT OVER T -- Take a convenient time. This should be when both of you are relaxed(Proverbs 15:23) A -- Adopt a learners posture. Let your spouse knows you are listening. This will encourage him/her to communicate more freely and frankly(Amos 3:3) L -- Learn to express your feelings CLEARLY.But do it politely and lovingly(Ecclesisates 4:15) K -- Keep emotions under control(Proverbs 14:29) I -- Identify problems and concentrate on solving them without attacking personalities(2 Timothy 2:24) T -- Think through before you speak. Dont be rash(James 1:19) O -- Overlook mistakes. Dont sweeat the small stuffs(Proverbs 2:11) V -- Visit your Pastor if neccessary,for councelling and spiritual advice(Proverbs 19:20) E -- Endeavour to involve your children when neccessary,especially when issues concerning them are to be discussed. Also,eschew ungodly councels from friends(15:33) R -- Remember to always pray together. A praying family always sticks together.(1 Timothy 2:8). As you spend time together with your spouse and children to communicate both verbally and otherwise,you will begin to experience a depth of love yet unknown,unseen and unfelt. Dont let inadequate communication break up your home. TALK IT OVER!
