TAMPA TRIBUNE - 5-13-45. The body of a MacDill Field flier was found yesterday at Philip Shore school after he had fallen from a B-29 bomber. He was identified as Cpl. Eugene Eglian, Covington, Kentucky. Officials said he might have been dead before hitting the ground as he had not tried to open his parachute found thirty feet from the body. Eglian fell from the rear bomb bay doors sometime after midnight while the plane was on a routine flight. Two problems plagued the B-29 during the first year of production; engine fires and random release of bombs (on ocassion, dropping through closed doors) or bomb bay doors opening and closing without command. Its possible Cpl. Eglian was lying on the doors catching five and using his parachute case for a pillow.
