Suntai: Lawyers Disaqree Over Leqality Of Assembly’s Stand; The decision of members of the Taraba State House of Assembly against the official resumption of Governor Danbaba Suntai after his absence on health grounds continued to generate divergent opinions among lawyers yesterday in Abuja. Governor Suntai, who returned to the country on Sunday August 25 had transmitted a letter to the state House of Assembly intimating it of his return from the United States where he had been receiving treatment, but majority of the lawmakers led by the speaker advised him to return to medical leave. Sam Ologun-Orisa (SAN) said the state governor ought to be allowed to resume duties, stressing that Section 189 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution does not read into the position that the assembly must invite the governor or question the genuineness of his letter. He also explained that the deputy governor and state assembly are acting illegally by reversing the decisions of the returning governor which included the dissolution of the state executive council. “Even if the man is not fit, once he has transmitted a letter that he is back he automatically assumes his job.
