TARABA VOTERS WATCH PRESS RELEASE ENDORSING DARIUS’S PLAN TO CONTINUE WITH SUNTAI’S GOODWORKS. As the contestants go about their campaigns, we are yet to hear anyone of them, apart from Arc. Darius Ishaku, concretely outline in clear and concise terms how they plan to continue with the programs and projects of Governor Danbaba Suntai. We can understand that the other contestants belong to other political parties and may thus have their own manifestoes but they should at least have the good conscience to accept that Suntai recorded some milestones and certain developmental stride that must be sustained and continued. So for them to keep quiet and pretend that this is not the case is to elevate politics above principles and campaigns above conscience. For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that Suntai started some life changing projects in the state which must not be abandoned by any worthy successor to the exalted office. We would outline some of them in the course of this press release. But let us begin with Suntai’s road map for peaceful coexistence in the state. Governor Suntai is today known by all and sundry as the most efficient advocate of peace and security. It is to his credit that he ensured peace and security while he was actively in control by effectively tackling crime and criminality. Any one that would take over from Suntai must continue with this peace effort. Again, apart from Darius, we haven’t heard anything from the others about their peace plans for the state. Peace, above all, is the most important factor for development. It should be noted that Governor Suntai’s peace effort suffered a setback in the last two years when Alhaji Garba Umar was in charge. It is therefore not surprising that with the coming of the current acting governor, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi, the peace gradually seeped back into Taraba- especially in the troubled spots. This situation must be sustained. ROAD PROJECTS Besides peace, one of the most notable achievements of Suntai was opening up the states with roads everywhere. Someone once said that the road to growth and development in any community is just that: roads. And that is exactly what Suntai instituted. He pursued the roads projects with a fanatical zeal. Within Jalingo and all the other local governments’ capitals, Suntai ensured roads linking villages to the inner city. Jalingo, which used to be a one way town with no credible by-pass. Today, anyone who once lived in Jalingo but had been away would almost get lost due to the new roads springing up everywhere. The revolutionary 4km stretch of roads that adorned all the local government areas and Yangtu, for instance, is one of such- its impact is that of changing lives and enhancing development. We are glad that Darius has identified this project and has pledged to continue linking up more communities in our dear states. The Ardokola-Garba Chede- Bali- Gembu road is another land marking project started by Suntai. It has not only opened up the tourism potentials of the state, it has also given hope to the thousands in various communities in that part of the state. Today, more people are linked and more commercial activities have been boosted by that road which has suffered neglect in the past. The road is also linking all parts of the state to the North East and thus expanding transport, commerce and socialization. So when Darius at the flag off announced he would not let this worthy project die, it was heartwarming. Another project is the Mararaba-Abong- Ngoroje project started by the Suntai administration. This road would open up the commercial virtues of the Kurmi area to the rest of the world. Darius, at the Kurmi rally expounded the need to continue and finish that road. He basically stated that Taraba state can be serviced with revenues from that well endowed local government. Currently, the state is losing millions in timber, palm produce, cocoa, honey, and other mineral deposit from the area. Illegal miners and loggers are at work, even as exporters continue to evade huge payments in taxes. Darius announced that he would put the machinery in place to revive the old timber factory in the area which would in turn boost not just timber production but accelerated developments. ENERGY, INDUSTRIES AND SPORT TOURISM Speaking of industries, Darius has vowed to rejuvenate the highland tea in Kakara, up in the Mambilla. Already, the Sani Danladi led administration has lifted a huge burden by making strident plans to pay up areas and revive the tea industry which used to be one of the best in the world. Darius has pledged to continue the work too. The PDP candidate’s love for that part of the state knows no bound. It was through his efforts at the Ministry of Power that renewed talks on the Mambilla Hydro power project took the front burner at the federal level. Today, the ancient Mambilla Hydro power dam is about to become a reality. It would a good twist of fate to have the former minister of power host the president as they commission the gargantuan project that would cause a tsunami in the power sector of the country with 4000 megawatts. Already, the former minister would this February proudly receive his former boss, President Goodluck Jonathan, to commission the Kashimbilla dam located in Darius home town, Takum. It is a befitting tribute to the candidate who worked tirelessly on the project as minister. The dam is to generate 40 megawatts of electricity- a phenomenon that would change lives for the people of Takum, the entire Taraba state and other neighboring state in the areas of agriculture, power generation and water supply. Indeed, the good time is about to roll for millions of people. Darius, an avid golfer is also planning to start one of the biggest golf courses on the Mambilla. When completed, this golf course would be the best on the continent to boost sport’s tourism. Nature has already done 70 percent of the job in vesting undulating hills on the Mambilla. It is a natural setting for this enlightened sport that would witness the expansion of the tourism potentials of the state. We are therefore in tandem with Darius in clearly defining his dreams and aspiration. What is even more encouraging is that he knows exactly what to do and he has promised to work hard to achieve. Now, that is the new kind of politics we endorse. Ismaila Inusa James Bauka Coordinators.
