TARZAN (1999): I can give you one excellent reason to watch this film: Brian Blessed is in it, as the Gorilla hunting antagonist Clayton. You could not have gotten a more perfect voice for such a character (then again if more bad guys were voiced like Blessed, the world would smile more). In a rather traditional Disney fashion, this film is a beautifully animated, colourful and fun interpretation of the stories about a classic character. While I would more likely choose George Of The Jungle out of the 2 (since his best friend is voiced by John Cleese), Tarzan is still a strong character, and one that develops well throughout this film. Adopted by Gorillas as a baby after his parents are killed, and then raised like the Irishman working in the Italian Mob (Will never be made) within the gorilla family led by an understandably over-protective silverback named Kerchak. When he grows up, Tarzan becomes skilled enough to lead…until one day he rescues a woman named Jane, who was on a trip with her professor father and the manly man himself, Clayton. Tarzan then faces more problems and is provided with a lot of tough decisions that are probably predictable enough without even seeing the film (cough identity crisis cough). Is the film good? Yes, very much so. Some might even call it their favourite, and for some reason having Phil Collins do the music was perfect as well. Its not my favourite, but it was still great fun to watch and both the animation and artwork was truly stunning. 10/10 for the artwork. 9/10 for the music, 9/10 for the voice acting. 10/10 for the animation. 7/10 for the characters. 8/10 for the story. Overall 88/100
