TAX DAY VICTORY! On April 15th, the Yuba County Board of Supervisors approved the Declaration to withdraw from the State of California with a 3 to 1 vote. A fifth supervisor was not in attendance. Leaders of the Jefferson Declaration Committee attended the Supervisors’ meeting and were ecstatic with the decision, along with a room packed full of local Jefferson supporters. “Yuba is the fourth county in the State of Jefferson,” said Mark Baird, spokesman for the Declaration Committee. Previously, three counties approved the Declaration. They are: Siskiyou, Modoc and Glenn. “I am so proud of all the people who spoke in favor today,” said Baird, “one lady said she wants a state that her grandchildren can be proud of and California isn’t it.” Baird also praised Sally Rapoza, who said to the supervisors: “What harm can come from endorsing the Declaration?” That statement seemed to change a few supervisors’ minds, except one, who uttered the many-times repeated statement: It is just too hard. And that statement brought another Supervisor-Roger Abe to say, “I’m sure in 1964 that’s what ninety percent of the people thought about the Civil Rights movement.” “I want to also thank Supervisor Andy Vasquez, who was instrumental in bringing the Declaration to the Yuba Board,” said Baird. “He has championed this cause. He is appreciated.” And next, Baird praised God. “I thank God. This is His will,” said Baird, who added that “prayer works.” Liz Bowen
