TBT - Today is our special day, July 3, where we remember an extremely exceptional young man. In memory of our youngest son Riley who loved the 4th of July, I would like to focus this message to all the parents of young Children over this weekend. A parent never imagines anything can or will happen to a child but during this Independence day weekend, with all the parties, swimming, boating and back yard Bar-B-Qs the unimaginable happens. I write this post every 4th of July to create an awareness in hope that I can help prevent or avoid an accident from happening. Last year when I made my post, a father reached out to me and told me that the very next day he had a close encounter with one of his children. He read my post and was on alert. Paying a little closer attention to what was going on he prevented what could have been a life changing tragedy. 14 years ago today we had our tragic accident losing our youngest son Riley to a drowning in our backyard swimming pool. YES, we were all there and most of these type of accidental drownings happen when there are many around and with so many distractions an accident can happen. Stay close to the younger ones.. Just because they are wearing flotation devices doesnt mean they will be safe. Do not let them run around the pool where the concrete is wet. Create a buddy system were the older child watches out for someone younger. This 4th of July we will have 3 of our 4 grandchildren with us and 2 of them are close to the age Rileys was.. we love the 4th and realize that accidents happen and sometimes its just meant to be. In the mean time lets do all we can to help others be aware of small children around water.. Give your children a big hug and let them know how much you love them.. Kellie and I wish you all a Happy 4th of JULY !!....
