TBT- Remembering when I first made the connection between song lyrics and that someone had to write them. Tom T. Hall, Sneaky Snake album, and The Beatles ,Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album were the two I poured over as a kid. I never really understood most of The Beatles songs on that album,( not sure I still get them). I am grateful for growing up in a family that values music, sang, danced and listened to many different kinds of music. I am also grateful to them for encouraging me unconditionally when I chose to learn an instrument, and that they still listen when I am writing my own songs. Give your children the gift of music, yours, the worlds, old, new, traditional, original, and listen when they reciprocate with the music they discover. Remember, even what is traditional now was, and in some circles still, discounted as bad, wrong, horrible or evil. It opens the door to discussion, sharing and you may even find you understand your child a little more by what they are listening to, perhaps, discovering something new!
