TBT Bilingual Art here is a picture of my Grandmother and my Mother. They were two proud Americans of Native american and Mexican decent. My mother and her siblings were born in a Native Teepee. I ask my mother what language she spoke when she was young, she said english and Native american. They all learned to speak spanish when the moved to Texas. My Mother for some reason didnt teach me how to speak spanish. I suffered during the United Farmworker Movement and the Chicano Art Movement. I wanted to be accepted so bad, but at the time couldnt speak spanish. I did learn! I was called a sellout, (Vendido) A wannabe whitie, and others. My hero at the time in college at the UW in Seattle was Diego Rivera. He painted the life of the poor in Mexico through his art. I decided to paint the farmworkers in the USA. It was my way of being accepted by Farmworkers who spoke mostly spanish. I spoke spanish through my art. It did work for me. I hope to get a book someday of my history and being a son of farmworkers. Sid White of the Evergreen St. College organized a committee and started one for me. He had a stroke and sadly passed, he was a great man. My Bilingual Art pictures speak a thousand words. I raise and wave the American flag for me and my elders. My history is imbedded in the fabric of America. God Bless America.
