TBT: Remembering Michael Dooman - with love and gratitude. Tomorrow, many members of The Country School community will be heading to New Britain to attend the service for Michael Dooman, former TCS Middle School director, who passed away just after Thanksgiving following a long battle with cancer. We came across these photos from the Class of 2006s graduation ceremony, and after posting them on our TCS Alumni Facebook page, we share them here, because we think they get at the essence of what Mike meant to our community. Several of the photos show students paying tribute to Mr. Dooman, who at the time was about to depart TCS to take up the role of Headmaster at Mooreland Hill School, his alma mater. In one photo, Mr. Dooman hugs a student who has just read the yearbook dedication to him. In another, he jokes and smiles with his colleagues. One photo shows a 7th Grader announcing the Latin song she and her friends will perform for him (in addition to serving as Middle School director, Mr. Dooman taught Latin and coached baseball). One photo shows a graduating 8th Grader giving him an enormous hug as she receives her diploma. One shows Mr. Dooman welling up with tears as the TCS community showers him with love and gratitude. We also share the tribute from Mooreland Hill to their late Headmaster, because it gets at the heart of what Mr. Dooman brought to the schools fortunate enough to have him as part of their community. As Mooreland said in their In Memoriam posting, Mooreland was Mr. Dooman’s passion and he was its heart and soul. We feel the same way, Thank you, Michael Dooman, for all you brought to your students, your colleagues, and The Country School community. mooreland.org/in-memoriam/. From The Country Schools 2006 Yearbook Dedication: Mr. Dooman, Throughout our years at TCS, youve always been here for us. Whenever we walk into your office for help, reassurance, or just to talk, we are always greeted with a warm smile. You have helped us every inch of the way with the secondary school process while still giving us the courage to forge our own paths. Although we may run the opposite way when you come down the hall (boy! at snack we dont have to have our shirts tucked in!), always remember that we love you and that you have made our TCS experience the best it could possibly be. On behalf of the 8th Grade class, thank you, Mr. Dooman, and remember: the answers always 72! A celebration of Mr. Doomans life will be held on Friday, December 12 at South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain, CT, at 1 p.m.
