TBT: The only time Ive played at Evolution Records. Even though we had already played over 30+ (combined) gigs under these monikers at that point, and even played big name festivals like Saint Pete Noise Fest and International Noise Conference (and I was about to play at Sux By Suxwest in Texas the following week), this show was quite a big deal for Kat and I...simply for the fact that we didnt have to drive over an hour just to get to the damn venue. It only took me five minutes to drive there straight from work, and arrived just in time to catch the second half of Carve Colors set. This was also the first time we shared a bill with fellow local experimentalists Derridada (and my second time seeing them perform), and I would share another bill with darsombra two days later at the Venture Compound. Overall, this show was quite a success. The turnout was phenomenal, especially considering it was a Monday night, IN LAKELAND, with more experimental acts performing. Hell, even some friends of ours from the Saint Pete scene drove all the way out to this show. Later that week, in Austin, TX, I wake up in my friends apartment, checking my Facebook newsfeed...and find out that Evolution was closing at their current spot, and eventually re-locating. They eventually set up a fundraiser to help them re-open for three months, but unfortunately did not make their goal (they only made $3,000 out of $10,000), and now Evo is officially no more. Rest in peace, Evolution Records. Thank you for the good times, and thanks to Matt DeOliveira for putting together that wonderful show. Thank god my car is great on gas.
