TCA: New Certification for Managers: A new program, known as the Highly Effective Fleet Manager, was recently launched by the Truckload Carriers Association for members of the truck industry who specialize in driver and fleet management. The program is a seven-part series that offers instructional information on leadership, business, communication and coaching skills that have proven to be successful in the past. While such a course wont necessarily give you the pay boost of a traditional MBA and land you a job on Wall Street, it can give you many of the core skills taught at top notch schools. The Truckload Carriers Association understands that the academy is one of the single most useful tools for carriers and especially those in charge of managing entire operations. Chris Burruss, president of the TCA, says that the Challenges of an ever-changing operating environment are eased by (the programs) educational offerings and real-world solutions. The idea is to create success for truckload industry and the communities it serves. A secondary program, known as the Highly Effective Fleet Manager Program, is divided into modules that encompass different ideas, including tactics for ensuring top driver performance and the fleet managers role as a business leader. Those who enroll in this program will learn behavioral knowledge and structured coaching techniques that can be used as successful driver management strategies. The program can be found in the Truckload Academy Live Learning Center. Enrollment costs $599 normally, but is priced at $459 for TCA members. Upon completion of the course, fleet managers will take an online final exam and receive a certificate if they pass. The business and management process starts with good leadership, employee involvement and development, teamwork, and agility as the pyramid shows.
