TCAS II version 7.1 has now been introduced into European airspace. Its most significant change is the replacement of the “Adjust vertical speed, adjust” resolution advisory (RA) with a new “Level off, level off” RA. Monitoring in core European airspace has shown that in some cases pilots overact when responding to Level Off RAs: instead of bringing the aircraft into level flight, they start to descend (while climbing) or climb (while descending), sometimes at significant rates.
