TEACH THEM “ ‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, … teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you’ “ Matthew 28:19, 20 Every year millions of our truth-filled books find their way into the homes of people, mainly as the result of the work of faithful literature evangelists. Many people buying these books are not sure of their real spiritual value. We need to teach them how to use our books in order for them to get the most benefit from their investment. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were nominal Christians, living in a city close to Johannesburg, South Africa. They went to church occasionally and were superficially interested in spiritual things. Mr. Brown was an official in the gold-mine industry and Mrs. Brown a housewife. One day a visitor came to their home. A literature evangelist. He talked with them about spiritual things for a while, and then he showed them some nice books with the titles The Great Controversy, The Bible Speaks, and others. They were interested and dicided to buy these books. But they put them away and never looked at them again for more than a year. Another man came to their home on another occasion. He talked to them about some strange things and showed them some strange things. By looking in a crystal ball, he could tell them what was going to happen to them in the future. They became very concerned. They had never heard such things before nor read about them anywhere! Just one day after this experience with the spiritualist, there was a knock once more on the door. It was the literature evangelist again. When Mrs. Brown saw him, she gave a shout of joy, “I am so glad you came! Please come in.” Then she told him everything the spiritualist told them. She was told that her husband was going to die an unnatural death on a certain date, which was not to too far in the future. This put a lot of stress on her. She was at the point where she could not sleep well anymore. She needed help, and she did not know where to get it. The literature evangelist asked her if they read the books they bought from him more than a year before. No, they never read them. They put them away in a safe place and never looked at them again. She brought out the books and was surprised to find what The Great Controversy had say about spiritualism. The literature evangelist requested her to read that chapter during the next week then he would return, and they could look at same more chapters to help her. When the literature evangelist returned the next week, he found a much relaxed Mrs. Brown. She thanked him for his help in finding what she needed. She never knew her books were so wonderful. The date for her husband’s death came and passed without anything happening to him. The Browns had to be taught how to use their books before they could appreciate them. Let us pray for those books on the bookshelves in the homes of people. Miracles of Grace
