TEACHER QUESTION Hi, I have a question regarding visas as a US citizen. My wife and I plan to spend some time abroad teaching English, at least part of that in Thailand. Based on what weve come to understand, its preferable to find a job in person rather than securing one beforehand. Weve decided to follow this advice and have bought ONE WAY tickets to Chiang Mai, where we plan to work and live. Now, based on what Ive seen on the Thai Consulate Website (Washington DC), to get a tourist visa one must also produce evidence of a return flight. As we plan to stay in Thailand for more than a year, I dont see how we should be expected to foresee and even purchase a ticket for whenever that departure date may be. What do we do in this case? If its acceptable to seek employment after entry into the country, it seems like there would be a way to enter with a one way ticket. Is this a stupid question? Thanks for your time, Brad Ward
