TEACHING FOR TRANSFORMATION Johan Potgieter 2014-07-07 Ps 119:103 - 105 “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Every Sunday after the morning service, we always go to the same store on route to buy fresh supplies for the week. This was also one of those Sundays where the family was completely divided on what to have for lunch. Because it was so cold I thought a lovely Indian curry would go down well. My wife said she would gladly settle for Chinese (as usual) and our son was looking in the direction of a delectable beef burger. When I saw that the store we usually buy from had racks of spare ribs as well as eisbein, we agreed that this would be lunch. All good and well, until last night. I felt so nauseous right throughout the night and woke up with a headache the size of Table Mountain. The ribs or eisbein, or both, didn’t sit well with me. This was NOT the way I wanted to start my Monday morning. As I was thinking about all this, the Holy Spirit prompted me and said that many of God’s people also eat meals that are kind of ‘off.’ They ingest poor doctrines and teachings which look good, smell good and taste good, but are detrimental to their spiritual health! REFLECTION What kind of spiritual food do you eat daily? Are you open for the Holy Spirit to teach YOU from and through the scriptures? Check what you eat spiritually, it could just have long-term consequences. Heavenly Father, Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path. Holy Spirit, lead me in the paths of righteousness and help me with discernment, so that I may know what spiritual food to eat and what to avoid. I ONLY want to eat what is good for my spiritual health and advancement in the Spirit. In Jesus name. Amen Golden Nugget for the day: “A GOOD spiritual diet will always sustain you during times of spiritual drought.” (Johan Potgieter)
