TEAM JAKE UPDATE!!! Wednesday 8/20 11AM By LaNay Blackmon — 2 hours ago First night at TIRR -- check! Jake got settled in and fell asleep watching an old football game. After my update last night, I was getting ready for bed. I was thinking about Lukes first day of Kindergarten today and remembering Jake and Emilys first days. I was thinking of any possible ways to be there to walk him in, get my picture, and meet his teacher. My sister was still here. So I called an audible, Before you leave..., what do you think about me going home tonight and you staying here with Jake? Of course, she was more than happy to. I called Keith and told him I was headed home for the night. I took a shower in my shower, slept in my bed, and made my own coffee this morning! It took me awhile to fall asleep, and Ill be honest, I had not anticipated the emotions that would go along with being back home for the first time. Just remembering the events from the last time I was there, kind of caught me off guard. It didnt last long though, because I have so much more to be grateful for than sad about. Waking Emily and Luke up for school was fun. Emily, of course had been snoozing for 30 minutes. She said, Hi, Mom? And Luke sat up and gave me a hug and said, Is Jake here? Keith and I went together to drop the kids off at school. I got my first day picture of Luke and met his teacher. She was aware of what was going on at home for Luke and was very sensitive to that. He was a little anxious, but held it together well. :) So, this morning, Jake has had RT, PT, OT and now has a wheelchair that hes supposed to sit in more than the bed. The wheelchair is only necessary until he builds up more endurance. Right now, if he walked to the therapy room himself, hed be too tired for therapy once he got there. He walked the halls outside his room for a little while, with MY assistance; no walker or crutches. His oxygen (saturation) levels stayed good, only dipping below 90 once. So thats a step in the right direction. :) Strength and endurance are the prayer requests for him now. Those will both just take time. Please also pray for his appetite to return. He hasnt had much of one the last 24 hours. I know nutrition will play an important role in his recovery and a dietician will be by today to talk about that with him. We have a schedule for the day and it involves a few more evaluations and therapy sessions today. Theyll keep him busy! I hope you all have a great day! Much love ~ LaNay
