NYST Recent news release of NYST having a judgement against operating with more than 25 motorcycles at the track at one time all of which were said to be of 250cc maximum displacement, has us very concerned. In further review, surrounding towns people have been fighting the track with lawsuits over many issues. With each visit we have witnessed them physically present at the gate taking notes. TPM had finally arrived on an agreement since the track decided to operate their own motorcycle events and membership programs. Due to the recent public news and judgement against the track, we are electing to place a hold on TPM visiting NYST. We all love NYST. The layout is fun to ride, but in not knowing all the issues, we wouldnt want to put TPM in any kind of situation or add more problems, Glen said. These decisions are extremely difficult and without knowing, making a large commitment to members and financially, is super tough, especially when the track is saying one thing and the judge another. There just isnt any guarantee as it could go either way. Just how does a TPM coach go about knowing when its time to move a rider to another skill group? In many cases its not so easy. What would make this process difficult do you think? The toughest is the rider who is inconsistent. This rider is tricky as one moment its a no brainer and the next its a definite no can do. Inconsistent riders will ride one corner well, meaning they are on the correct line, they look smooth and in control, but then something happens. The opposite. Off line, chop the throttle, dive in sometimes on the inside of another rider, not completing the turn and obviously trying to go fast as possible which ends up really slow. Coaches have much to consider when to move a rider but the most important is how in control and consistent is the rider? Is there courtesy? Do they ride the line, and are they with in the speed of the group? So to recap. Coaches can and do bump for: Consistent Riding. On Line. General Speed. Safety. Holding the Rules. Coaches usually wont consider a bump for: Inconsistent Riding. Off Line. Trying to be fast (obvious). Unsafe, which is moving all around where you shouldnt, and passing incorrectly. Its obvious to a coach when a rider is trying to impress another rider, be faster than another rider because the riding is exaggerated, meaning it doesnt appear proper, calm, collected, consistent and predictable. Since much of what a coach does is geared toward safety, all of these points listed above are taken into consideration with safety being of highest priority. Most of us as track riders want to explore speed and seeing if we can go faster, but when you think of fast, what exactly is fast? When you are fast you learned how to slow down. Next time you think your are ready to move just ask one of the coaches and remember, its not about impressing but more so about doing it properly and being safe.
