TEARS, PAINS, HUNGER AS THOUSANDS OF GRADUATES GATHER TO COLLECT APPLICATION FORMS FOR TEACHING JOBS ACROSS THE THREE SENATORIAL DISTRICTS IN AKWA IBOM STATE As Observed in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Centre. The unemployed graduates arrived at the venue before 8am despite the early morning heavy rainfall. The age bracket of the applicants ranged between 20 and 45. Year of graduation ranged between 1997 and 2012. Courses of study however calls for deliberations as the crowd had the following graduates seeking for teaching jobs in secondary school: 1. Architects 2. Mechanical and Electrical Engineers 3. Surveyors 4. Computer Engineers 5. Lawyers 6. Laboratory Scientists 7. Political Scientists 8. Communication Artists 9. And several other graduates of related and unrelated courses. The population of today’s turn out numbered over two thousand (2000) unemployed graduates aka applicants. The exercise however started about 12pm despite the early turn out of the anxious unemployed graduates. There were however very few officials to attend to the mammoth crowd. The officials worked tirelessly till the forms available were exhausted between the hours of 5pm and 6pm. OUR RECOMMENDATIONS 1. More officials should be mobilized for the exercise as more graduates are expected after today. 2. More forms should be made available in the future to avoid the same embarrassment of today reoccurring. 3. Please and please government should open employment in other fields to allow/encourage only relevant graduates apply for teaching jobs. If all these graduates who are turning out because of frustration are absorbed into the educational system, we should expect the worst set of teachers /students in the nearest future. 4. This state is matured enough to have a data base of all unemployed graduates. 5. Lastly, DIGITAL GOVERNOR PLEASE DIGITALISED YOUR RECRUITMENT METHOD. LET US NOT ONLY DIGITALISED GOVERNMENT LODGE, VEHICLES AND HOTELS BUT ALSO RECRUITMENT PROCESSES. LETS STOP PUNISHING THESE APPLICANTS UNDER THE SUN AND IN THE RAIN WHEN AT THE END OF THE DAY, 50% WILL NOT GET THE JOB AS IT HAPPENED LAST TIME. AKYF, IT IS WELL WITH US !
