TECH TIP: If you have an Android phone and suddenly start receiving a Warning: Camera failed error when you launch the camera app, heres some tips that might help. First, you will find numerous tips online (that include force closing the camera app, deleting caches, rebooting into recovery mode, resetting the phone to factory defaults, disassembling the phone, etc). READ THIS FIRST BEFORE TRYING ANY OF THOSE! Only try those if this doesnt apply. Do you have a flashlight app? If so, proceed below (and save yourself a major headache following the steps found elsewhere). (1) turn on the camera LED and then turn it off using the flashlight app. Try your camera. If it works, either repeat this if the camera app ever stops working again, or uninstall the flashlight app and use another. Generally, you will probably find this occurs on reboots (though sometimes at other seemingly random times). (2) uninstall the flashlight app, restart the phone and try the camera again. Make sure you uninstall all flashlight apps (and turn off and remove any in any tasker like widgets). (3) if you have a flash notification enabled, disable it, use a flashlight app to turn the flash LED on and then OFF, and then retry the camera app. IF that doesnt work, search Google for detailed instructions on how to proceed ahead with the other suggestions. Basically, if any app locks the flash, even if flash was last disabled in the camera app, NO camera app you have installed will be able to connect with the camera. Often, simply using that app to turn on AND THEN OFF the flash will resolve the issue.
