If I was just giving a talk I could give my opinion knowing the next speaker would give his/hers and it wouldnt matter how polarized our views were. But as the opener of the conference AND my words being promoted on video, I be positioned as more of the VOICE of the event, which could be construed as being the voice of Wall Street for some, a positioning with which I was not comfortable. Considering that I had just spoken at the amazing TEDxSkidRow the month before I had to make sure I was keeping in alignment with my purpose on this earth. So I told them I would only do it if the piece reflected BOTH their overarching theme of FILLING THE VOID - bringing diverse perspectives to the conversation about how wall street can innovate to better serve unmet needs - as well as MY OWN perspective on Wall street/Main street/K street, capitalism, and transforming our definition of wealth ...spoken from a hopeful place.
