TELL THE HOLY SPIRIT TO HELP YOU In real life situations, minus, instead of plus the Holy Spirit, can make people sideline the gospel because of the mysteries associated with it. The Holy Spirit is able to guard, guide and assist us understand the mysteries surrounding the Word of God. When Jesus said in John15:5 “Without me ye can do nothing”, when also Paul declared in Philip4:12-13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” and also in Heb4:14-16 – “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need”, these and others were pointers to why man’s total dependence on God is crucial. With the help of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God which is likened to a lemon(2Pet3:16) is converted into a lemonade – a soft drink, made from lemon, sugar and water. These additives alter or improve the texture in some way to make it attractive for drinking. So then, the Psalmist could tell us in Psa34:8(KJV) - “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him”. Why do we lay claim to the practice and tradition of prayer to precede teaching and preaching of the Word? That shows subordination of one’s heart and mind to the Holy Spirit to turn the Word into something soluble, LEMON into LEMONADE. I am using Lemon and Lemonade (figurative) because the Word is spiritual food(Matt4:4, Jere15:16) and if in John6:66-69 some backpedaled or withdrew acquaintances, guess for yourself where they belonged. Jesus gave reasons why He preached in parables ie a short story using visible creation, designed to teach moral lessons on invisible realities. In our case as believers He anticipated the coming of the Holy Spirit to provide us understanding(“And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?. He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given- Matt13:10-11, John16:13). It will require the skillfulness of the Holy Spirit to use any human vessel to deliver on the mandate committed to us. A Spirit Inspired Minister should be able to teach or preach in a gathering consisting of both believers and unbelievers, learned and unlearned in a healthy and a balanced atmosphere, worthy of his calling, otherwise as was said in 1Corin 14:23-25, a section of the congregants would raise objection for having been neglected or given a raw deal. In our attempt to prove our worth, we are fast becoming philosophical in our approach /method than the norm. Paul declared in 2Tim4:2-4 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine………”. There could be the tendency to swerve the simple minded just as Peter declared of Paul in 2Pet3:16. Even our Lord Jesus was confronted with similar experience in John6:55-69. Holy Spirit help me/us critically examine what is released from our mouths as becoming conduit of love to correct the negative conditions raging around and in most people. I know there is a balm not in Gilead but here in Ghana(myself & U) to bring healing to everyone who is fortunate to read from me this morning, in Jesus’ Name, Amen. Stay Blessed
