TEMPLE DAILY TELEGRAM / Other District 2 candidates have had run-ins with law enforcement Judy Morales is not the only District 2 Council candidate with past run-ins with law enforcement. Gregory Alan “Red” Wise, 59, has 14 misdemeanor convictions going back to 2000, with most of those offenses listed for criminal trespass. During the past 14 years Wise spent more than two years in the Bell County Jail. Cynthia Arriaga has one hot check warrant arrest, she said Friday. “I was trying to get out of an abusive relationship,” Arriaga said. “I closed my account and didn’t realize there was one more check out there. And I moved from Temple. But I found out a few years later when I came back. I was arrested on the warrant. I paid the fine and was out in a couple of hours.” The Bell County Attorney’s Office showed a bad check offense on Aug. 20, 2000, that was filed on March 13, 2001. It was a Class C misdemeanor that was dismissed on Dec. 26, 2001, after restitution was made by Cynthia Palmer, who is now Cynthia Arriaga. “Had I known, I would have taken care of it. It’s something that happened in my life and I’m not proud of it,” Arriaga said. “I honestly expected it to come out before now after Judy Morales sat next to me at the NAACP candidate forum. She leaned over and whispered ‘hot check’ in my ear after the question was asked if anyone else had a criminal record.” dmckeon@tdtnews
