TESDA-Caraga to confer 368 C4TP graduates on Wednesday in Surigao del Norte By Robert E. Roperos BUTUAN CITY, 02 July (TESDA) – A total of 368 Cash for Training Project (C4TP) trainees in Surigao del Norte will be conferred graduates by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in a ceremony on Wednesday, July 3 at the Provincial Convention Center, Surigao City. According to TESDA-Caraga Regional Director Dr. Florencio F. Sunico Jr., this initiative is in support to the mandate of TESDA Secretary Emmanuel Joel J. Villanueva and the present administration as part of President Benigno S. Aquino III’s social contract to the Filipino people particularly the “Education for All”. Dir. Sunico said the graduates represent 84.01 percent of the total number of beneficiaries in the province. “There is a total of 438 beneficiaries in Surigao del Norte with a total budget of Php 8,760,000,” Sunico added. Specifically, the official stressed the program is in support to government’s thrust in providing a sustainable intervention to improve the plight and condition of the youth and empower them through skills training and assistance towards gainful employment and entrepreneurial activities. The project is implemented in two independent components, namely: 1) training for wage employment (Trabaho) and; 2) training for self-employment (Hanapbuhay). The TESDA chief of the region explained the training for wage employment is organized and conducted in a TESDA-registered training provider. After their graduation, they will undergo jobs-bridging activities to facilitate their entry to jobs. He added the self-employment training is a program may be conducted on-site, school-supervised or thru partner non-government organizations (NGOs). He further stressed the project provides youth with skills training opportunities and job facilitation or entrepreneurship support so they can earn and participate in community building. Sunico also said the cash is in a form of training voucher, toolkits (for Training for Self-employment), assessment fee and allowance amounting to Php 20,000 per beneficiary. The training was provided by TESDA and kits authorized training providers, which are designed to match specifically, indicated demand for wage and self employment. Local government units, training providers and NGOs are partners in nurturing the economic activities that the graduates shall pursue. Meanwhile, the Dept. of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) submits the list of youth beneficiaries to the TESDA regional offices. The list duly endorsed and signed by the DSWD Regional Director serves as the official list of beneficiaries. Any changes to be made must be signed and endorsed by the DSWD Regional Director. Moreover, Dir. Sunico said the training is composed of three phases. In the conduct of actual training, the training provider conducts the training based on the approved Qualification Map (QM). “A training certificate, which shall indicate that the training program is under the TESDA-DSWD C4T Project, will be awarded by the training provider to the graduates. Also, toolkits will be given to them so that they can immediately start their livelihood,” Sunico said. The graduation ceremony will be graced by Dir. Sunico, DSWD-Caraga Regional Director Dr. Minda Brigoli, and local officials of Surigao del Norte headed by Governor Sol Matugas. (RER, TESDA-Caraga)
