TESLA Dear Tesla Advocates, We have just learned that the hearing before the House Transportation, Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee on a bill that may be amended to shut down Teslas ability to sell and service cars in Ohio has been moved up a day! The hearing is now scheduled for Tuesday, December 3rd at 1:30pm in Statehouse Room 122. All Tesla owners and supporters are invited to join us at the hearing if it is convenient for you to do so. While most of SB 137 has to do with requiring Ohio drivers to move over for maintenance and emergency vehicles on the side of the road, the Ohio Dealers Association is still pushing to add an anti-Tesla amendment to the bill. We understand that the amendment may be introduced and voted on in tomorrows hearing. This is an attempt to jam the Anti-Tesla amendment through the legislature just before the end of the session by attaching it to a moving piece of legislation. The website where SB 137 is posted hasnt yet been updated to reflect the proposed anti-Tesla amendment, so for your reference, the text of that proposed amendment is as follows: 4517.12 Denial of license as motor vehicle dealer, motor vehicle leasing dealer, manufactured home broker, or motor vehicle auction owner. (A) The registrar of motor vehicles shall deny the application of any person for a license as a motor vehicle dealer, motor vehicle leasing dealer, or motor vehicle auction owner and refuse to issue the license if the registrar finds that the applicant: … (11) Is a manufacturer or a subsidiary, parent, or affiliated entity of a manufacturer. applying for a license to sell or lease new or used vehicles at retail. Nothing in this division shall prohibit a manufacturer from disposing of vehicles at wholesale at the termination of a consumer lease through a motor vehicle auction. This division shall not serve as a basis for termination, revocation, or non-renewal of a license granted prior to the effective date of this provision.
