TEXARKANA, TEX- The City of Texarkana, Texas received notification from Waste Management on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 that waste pick-up rates for Texarkana, Texas will increase by 1.9% on January 1, 2015. Adjusted rates are calculated based on the change in the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index over the past 12 months as well as an adjustment for fuel costs. The residential rate will go from $17.21 to $17.54, which amounts to a $0.33 increase. According to Doug Sims, Public Sector Solutions manager for Waste Management, this adjustment automatically goes into effect on January 1st and does not require council approval. These terms are outlined in the solid waste removal contract between Waste Management and the City of Texarkana, Texas which expires February 28, 2017.
