TEXAS MUSIC IS LOVED STEVE FROMHOLZ For January 15th 2015 Steven Fromholz singer and songwriter from Temple Texas was born on June 8, 1945 and passed away on January 19, 2014. He was also a talented poet who was selected as the Poet Laureate of Texas for 2007. He attended the University of North Texas where he was president of the Folk Music Club. He began performing while he was serving in the United States Navy during the 1960s. After leaving the Navy, he teamed with Dan McCrimmon to create the group Frummox. Fromholz also played with Stephen Stills and Rick Roberts before going solo. He recorded with Willie Nelson, singing Id Have to be Crazy and with Lyle Lovett singing Texas Trilogy and Bears. Other artists that have recorded his songs include Hoyt Axton, John Denver, and Jerry Jeff Walker. Steve was injured on January 19, 2014 while hunting on a ranch near Eldorado, Texas when a rifle slipped out of its case and discharged. He died at a hospital in Eldorado the same day. Fromholz was 68 years old.
