THANK YOU ANTS ARMY! Finally I was able to fly out of Leh and made it to the career guidance talk show in Aurangabadh just in time. More about that later but I quickly wanted to thank you all for the tremendous support to the post about Air India’s hungry and homeless Maharajas at the Leh airport. I hear that our post have had desired effects in the right circles. I know we can stretch the issue much further… knowing how they treated the passengers that day, but would like to stop it here for this time, considering this as their first encounter with the ants army. Next time we hear about passengers being treated to 5 rupee biscuit instead of a hot lunch or kept homeless after cancellation we can definitely consider stronger actions like a case in consumer court or more. And here are some more issues I observed at the Leh airport that day but could not share earlier as I was travelling. I saw that the toilets and bathrooms at this prestigious airport were pretty much hopeless. Even in this 21st century airport with all kinds of sophisticated heating systems and budget of crores of rupees, the plumbing system was all dysfunctional and water in the washrooms was being supplied in big broken buckets… The level of hygiene can be imagined from the fact that the hand washing mugs and the toilet mugs both had to be dipped in the same big broken bucket. , Needless to say that there were no toilet paper rolls in any of the toilets although I am sure this is a basic norm at any decent airport. I am surprised that with all budgets that airports have and all the science and technology our country is supposed to have developed… with Mars Missions and what not… we are not able to have functional washrooms with running water here. One may say that Ladakh is cold...and so on, but at a humble low budget institute like SECMOL Campus we have had 12 month-functional bathrooms with running water for now 20 years. Moreover several passengers and staff at the airport told me that the heating systems at the airport was not at all adequate. The security staff and the early morning passengers have to face near freezing temperatures inside the airport. I can’t imagine that the Airports Authority of India that could install hi-tech heating systems worth crores of rupees has a shortage of budget for running that system!!! Again, past is past but in future aware passengers will fight for their rights and the ants army … BE PREPARED TO MARCH!
