THANK YOU Karen Dawn for posting this piece about the black rhyno: The Saturday, January 18, Los Angeles Times includes a column by Carla Hall titled, A plea to hunter Corey Knowlton: Dont shoot endangered black rhino. Hall opens with: There are so many things wrong about the Dallas Safari Club’s ludicrous auction of a permit to hunt a black rhino in order to raise money for conservation of black rhinos. We read: The winner of the auction, which took place about a week ago, is Corey Knowlton, who paid $350,000 for the right to hunt. Hall quotes Knowlton, who said that he just wanted to experience a black rhino: If I go over there and shoot it or not shoot it, it’s beyond the point. And she writes: So I’d like to issue this plea to Knowlton: Don’t shoot it. You’ve made the donation to a good cause. Now, follow through with your own personal conservation effort and save one endangered rhino from being your trophy. Youll find the whole piece on line at: tinyurl/kedfg6o Please check it out and comment below it. And why not send a letter to the editor? You might write about this hunt or use it as a jump off point for a letter on any aspect of our relationship with other species.
