NOT A SINGLE INCH OF OUR LAND AND OTHER COMMUNITY/ CITIZEN ISSUES TO GET UP WHEN YOU ARE DOWN: TO FIGHT MORE INTENSELY WHEN YOU ARE STRUGGLING ; TO STAND TALL WHEN EVERYONE IS PULLING YOU DOWN ARE WHAT MAKES A CHAMPION- Apoorve Dubey. Champions were born on March 15 from amongst the people of Malwani, young and old what a way to go. We salute each one of you alongwith Fr. Austin Norris the Parish Priest of St. Anthonys Church and the team of Frs James Correa, James Dcosta and Henry Dsouza. A special thanks to the entire SOUL Team who dedicated their time and worked very hard to see this success. Agitation is the only means of a struggle against the silence and the apathy of the authorities. Amongst the CHAMPIONS who addressed the Rally were: : Justice H. Suresh, Fr. Cedric Prakash, S.J , Human Rights Campaigner from Ahmedabad, Fr. Allwyn Dsilva Chairman- Archdiocesan Office of Environment, Fr. Lancy Pinto, Chairman - Justice and Peace Commission, Smt. Dominica Dabre - Activist from Vasai, Fr. Frazer Mascarenhas- Principal,St. Xaviers College, Nicholas Almeida, Trustee Watchdog Foundation, Mr. Joseph Gonsalves- President Dharavi Beth Bachao Samiti, Mr. Vivian Dsouza- President,Mumbai East Indian Association, Mr. Alexander Dsouza of IEICC, Mr. Alphi Dsouza, Head of Mobai Gaothan Panchayat, Mr. Greg Pereira and Ms. Bernadine Dcosta of Soul Team, Ms. Jaya Anthony - Chairperson, BCS Unit of Malwani, Fr. Austin Norris- Parish Priest and Dolphy Dsouza- Spokesperson- SOUL. Before the Rally began we met with the Municipal Commissioner [ delegation of Fr. Austin, Stanley, Greg and Dolphy] and submitted to him a Memorandum. We told him we are troubling him but we will keep on troubling him till the issues are sorted out. The BMC Commissioner listened patiently and smiled throughout. Oswald Cardinal Gracias Archbishops warm letter of encouragement and support to our campaign and the other concerns was read out by his Secretary, Fr. K.T. Emmanuel to the gathering. We then presented a Memorandum at the Rally to Shri Munaf Hakim, Chairman - Maharastra State Minorities Commission who also addressed us and promised that he was with us on these community issues. We cannot forget the motivation presented by the Youth [Elrica Dlima and Team] on songs and then Helen Kinny and the band, sabka baja diya band We missed the presence of Smt Janet Dsouza- Vice Chairperson, Maharastra State Minorities Commission who had promised that she would address the Rally. The opening prayer was led by Fr. James Correa & the rally was compered ably by Stanley Fernandez. We also thank the presence of so many Priests and Nuns & the representatives from over 60 parishes from all over Mumbai/ Gorai/ Uttan and Kalyan and several other Activists Groups across communities. Thank you our friends for standing in solidarity and unity. We thank the Parish Priests and the Clergy team of all the Parishes who welcomed our activists and supported this just campaign.
