THANK YOU TO We Out Here Magazine FOR ALWAYS KEEPING IT 100! I was surprised and disappointed Tope didn’t make the list last year, but members of groups – as we’ve seen – can have a hard time making a list meant for individual accolades. The last year or so for Tope has been much different than his past though. Not saying that he’s moved on from TxE (or even Living Proof, for that matter), but he’s definitely strengthened his position as an individual artist. The #APMGang affiliate received a ton of press last year following a key feature in the Oregonian, and demonstrated a textbook-quality model of how to push an album as he went to work promoting and dropping videos for his Troubleman LP. A shoutout from the legendary Erykah Badu on his inspired video for Take Your Time tossed Tope into the national spotlight, but what really impressed was Tope’s ability to crush shows across the NW – with or without his TxE brethren in tow. It should also be noted that TxE placed 1oth in the Willamette Week’s Best New Band competition and was the only hip-hop band in the conversation, so it’s not like he ditched his squad or anything. In fact, they even made waves on XXL. But with G relocated in LA, Tope has put himself in great position to be talked about beyond TxE. That buzz, the panel agreed, was enough to secure him the #5 spot. Plus… Tope got girls. Bad ones. Always. Shout out to Tope. Check out his latest project, Chicken Wings & Ice Cream, and turn it up!
