THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, WARD 2! Today marks the end of 20 years as Councillor for Ward 2 in the City of Kitchener! Thank you to the residents of Ward 2 for your support over the past 20 years and for many incredible memories of what we have been able to achieve together for our ward and our city during that time. Many of you have earned a special place in my heart. During that time, we have been able to build a lot of great things together for our neighbourhood - from the Stanley Park Community Centre to the Centreville-Chicopee Splash Pad, from the Grand River Stanley Park community library to the Heritage Greens Lawn Bowling Club and from two new firehalls (Stations #3 and #4) to many new trails and trail links - all of this has added to the quality of life in our neighbourhood. But the real thing that has mattered has been the things we have achieved together for the citizens of ward 2 - the things that have added to their quality of life and helped them to grow as individuals. Whether it was supporting our two awesome neighbourhood associations - the Stanley Park Community Association and the Centreville-Chicopee Community Association - in providing programs and events for all ages to specialized programs like the COPS youth mentoring program which I co-founded with then Cst. Pat Smola - these are the things I will always remember the most. Why? Because they made real differences in the lives of real people. And that is what public service truly is all about! As I spend today moving out of my old role and preparing to become our Citys next Mayor, I extend best wishes to my new colleague, and Ward 2s new Councillor, Dave Schnider! Dave, I know you will do a great job for the people of Ward 2. Neighbours - it has been an honour to serve you for these past 20 years as your ward councillor. I look forward to begin serving you in a new role beginning tomorrow, and I continue to be humbled by the support and trust you have put in me to do so. A sincere, thank-you!
