THANKS FOR THE SPANKING Let the righteous strike me; It shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; It shall be as excellent oil; Let my head not refuse it. For still my prayer is against the deeds of the wicked. Psalm 141:5 (NKJV) When evil is played out before me or when I am told of it taking place, I cry out to the Lord. My prayer is that the evil is stopped, and that those who practice sin would turn from their unrighteousness. My prayer goes further to ask that if they refuse to turn from their wicked deeds that they themselves would be brought to nothing in their pursuits. Yet in the midst of all of this I find myself desiring some of their delicacies. Please permit me to be honest and confess that it gets even worse. Not only do I find myself desiring some of the delicacies of the wicked, I find myself getting down right envious of them. I mean why do they get to have everything they want without any regard for the Lord? Why do I struggle resisting temptation, or worse give in and Sin in the very things I am praying against? Many nights I have gone to bed mangled from the day’s battle, Or confessing my sins while seeking repentance. The Lord is faithful in answering those cries for help of deliverance from me, myself, and I To put it bluntly, He spanks my butt. Like parents spanking a child for playing with matches or running out in the street, The Lord sends a saint with a word of rebuke and correction. Though it may hurt, I understand it is for my good and the good of others who my life affects. So I am able to receive it as kindness. A child may not be able to understand at the time, “How is this spanking for my own good?” And at times I feel the same way. However receiving the Lord’s chastisement always turns out to be an anointing with the fragrance of holiness and an answer to prayer. So if you are like me, allow the righteous to strike you Knowing that it is from the Lord, Refuse not His correction, walk in obedience, And the prayer of faith will destroy the deeds of the wicked, even the wickedness in your own heart.
