THANKSGIVING DINNER FOR THE ANIMALS! TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 25TH AT 2:00PM AT THE HOKE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER (353 CC Steele Rd. Raeford NC 28376) We hope to see all of you there as this is a very special day for all of us! If you will be making a dish remember dogs and cats can’t handle butter and cream and other seasonings and spices like salt and pepper etc. Please make thier foods very bland. Please visit this website for a list of foods that are toxic to pets. No onions! caninejournal/foods-not-to-feed-dog/ There are many great websites out there with wonderful Thanksgiving recipes! Here are just a couple: thebark/content/thanksgiving-dinner-dogs entirelypets/5dethpetre.html sheknows/food-and-recipes/articles/847679/thanksgiving-goes-to-the-dogs-homemade-treats-for-your-pooch examiner/article/thanksgiving-dinner-for-your-dog SOME IDEAS OF DISHES TO BRING (please feel free to bring what you like these are just examples) Pumpkin- is great for dogs! It is good for both diarrhea and constipation, canned pumpkin (not raw, not the sugary, spicy pie filling) is loaded with fiber and beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A. So we love to see some pumpkin on the menu for our Turkey Day feast! Sweet Potatoes- are a source of dietary fibre and contain vitamin B6, vitamin C, beta carotene, and manganese! The dogs seem to love it too! Green beans are a good source of plant fibre, vitamin K, vitamin C, and manganese. some dogs like it others dont, but we would love to have a dish or two of green beans. Something simple to bring for a busy person! :) Mashed Potatoes always seems to be a hit! Just remember to keep it bland and spiceless! Rice is good to fee! Brown rice is a little higher in protein and a little lower in fat when compared to white rice. White or instant rice is an easily digestible carbohydrate which makes it a good source of energy when your dog has an upset tummy or if you are feeding an older dog. Peas can be added to any dish.. Peas are a good source of the B vitamin Thiamin, phosphorous, and potassium. They probably wont eat it plain, but you can get creative and put it in something yummy! These are just a couple ingredients that are good for dogs! Please let me know if you will be making a dish so us girls know how much and what we need to make. I believe someone has offered to bring a Turkey and we are getting 2 others donated and me and Tracey will be cooking those so we will be good on Turkeys! In the past we have had meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes, pupcakes, pumpkin, sweet potatoe casserole, applesauce, etc etc. PLEASE SHARE THIS INFO SO THAT THIS WILL BE ANOTHER SUCCESS! WE ARE SO EXCITED!!!! IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME KRISTI PYLANT SHELTER SUPERVISOR 910.875.4827 [email protected] Thank you!!!
