THAT DISORGANISED ORGANISATION CALLED NAM For sure one or two of you might disagree with my characterization of NAM as “disorganised”. For the reasons below, I dare say at the end you will not only agree with me but perhaps also add that this NAM has been the worst and a waste. Lets begin with the basics. Article 2 of NAM’s Constitution spells out it objects. Among others it is “to promote and encourage international netball and the conduct of international competition as an affiliated member of INF.” I take you 4 months ago, precisely the 24th April, 2014. The Nation Newspaper carried a story titled “Junior Queens to miss the Anoca games”. The reason was NAM’s negligence! They did not submit birth certificates in time. In her own words, Mrs Rosy Chinunda had this to say: “As a Netball President, I take full responsibility for the failure to participate” Four months down the line, NAM being what it is, too egotistical for nothing, has done it again! The junior Queens will not travel to Zimbabwe for Region Five Games set to be held in December. The reason is the same as the above. Negligence or perhaps reckless! They failed to submit birth certificates and passport details to process accreditation for the players! NAM don’t give a damn, they are not even ashamed of making the same mistake twice, effectively killing netball development. The failure to participate is contrary to its own objects under Article 2 precisely the part I cited. This is yet another clear case of NAM’s violation of its own Constitution. I must say this NAM has decided to honour its Constitution by violating it. Lest we not forget the expulsion of Tigresses from the Presidential Trophy in violation of Article 37.3, the failure to hold AGMs in violation of Article 16.1(a) as read with Article 4.1 and many more. There is another issue that really vexes me. Players’ welfare! Perhaps some of you don’t know, the Queens players are still owed money from the 2013 Fast 5 tournament. As that is not enough, they are also owed money from the recent Common Wealth games. Money loses value each passing day, especially in country like Malawi which has a highly fluctuating macro and micro-economic environment. It is an insult to give somebody his money one year down the line. Another “Cashgate India” is in the making. You will also remember that the Queens were camping at Sheaffer “Hotel” in Lilongwe. Despite all the agony, embarrassment and humiliation the Flames has subjected us to, sanayambe agonako ku Sheaffer but yet we do that to the Champions of Africa. I know we have investigative Journalists on this group. Please assist us in answering the following questions: 1. How much money was actually given (not pledged) to NAM from Airtel and Government for the 2013 Fast Five Games and 2014 Commonwealth Games? 2. Was the money sufficient to cover all the expenses plus players’ allowances and bonuses? 3. How was the money used? This has to be supported by documentary evidence. 4. Do we have comprehensive Financial Reports backed with documentary evidence from the Treasurer emanating from these two tournaments? 5. If we don’t have the Financial Reports, why is it so? Where is transparency? 6. Why did the Queens camp at Sheaffer “Hotel”? 7. The NAM officials who went on these two tournaments, have they collected their money or not? Atolankhani ndagwira mwendo wanu, tifufuzireni! I strongly feel you easily trace the money from the time the same was given to NAM, the subsequent transanctions (expenses) that followed to the point when the players were told that their money was not yet ready. It is only after carrying out such an independent exercise, then we will have a clear picture on why these players are still owed money that even dates back to last year. As of now I don’t understand and frankly speaking I find it inhumane. Players cannot speak out. They are afraid of the mighty NAM! Any player who dares to talk, as far as this administration remains, can surely consider her national team career over. NAM lacks objectivity; genuine issues are always taken personally. NAM sees players as their objects. No wonder they don’t care when they are injured or sick. A clear example is that of Emma Mzagada. They don’t even bother visiting her or at least just making a call. They only loved her for the 10 years she played for the National Team and thats all! Chikondi cha nkhwangwa chokoma pokwera! With all this malaise, am I therefore not justified to call this NAM disorganised alot, the worst and a waste? Sorry for the “novel” but I had no choice! LONG LIVE MALAWI NETBALL!
