THAT STATEMENT BY MR. PRESIDENT IS ENCOURAGING; BUT....... The Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan while swearing -in the 11 new Ministers last Wednesday 5th March, 2014 declared that he does not own any Bank Account or property outside the shores of this country. The Presidents words as tweeted by his Special Assistant on News Media, Reno Omokri, @renoomocri, Iam loyal to Nigerias economy, I dont have accounts or property abroad. All my children live and school in Nigeria. The Presidents declaration that he has no any bank account or any property outside this country is an encouraging statement, however we want to remind Mr President and also ask some questions, that if personally he does not own account or property abroad we plead with him to come out publicly to declare his assets or to direct the Code of Conduct Bureau to make public his assets declaration forms when he first took office as a Vice President and now that he is the President. We also want to ask Mr. President to explain to Nigerians why as the then Vice President, he refused to publicly declare his assets in 2007 when his then boss late Umaru Musa Yaadua publicly declared his assets. Mr. President is also invited to note that he is not the only Nigerian President or leader that would come out in the public and make such statement. Even President Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Gowon and Shagari made similar statements. We also wish to remind the President that most public officers may not have accounts or properties abroad bearing their direct names, but always use the tricks through their proxies, and Family members or their First ladies, or their siblings. For what the President stated on the subject matter, lets for once believe him; while the President as a person is not corrupt, why is it that the President as our leader has allowed the various and series cases of corruption going on among his top government officials? Can we liken the government of Mr. Jonathan to the one headed by President Shehu Shagari, who also had been confirmed as not corrupt, but allowed his top government officials to wallow in corruption?. For the Presidents assertion that all his Children are schooling in this country, this singular revelation by Mr. President earns my commendation. We However wish to plead to Mr. President to direct all his Ministers, Federal Permanent Secretaries, heads of federal extra ministerial boards, corporations, his personal aids, and all other political appointees to emulate this your action (for allowing your children to school in Nigeria). Sir i further want to add that you should make it as a pre-condition for appointing any person into any political office in your government. For these who have already been appointed, you please compel them to comply, or they be sacked. Sir, if you can summon the courage and political will to do this singular act, before you leave office comes 29th May, 2015, you would have commenced a genuine enthronement of the countrys education reform and foundation.
