THE 2014 FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN! The deadline to apply is March 1, 2014. Please review the eligibility criteria, application instructions, and selection timeline below. Click here to begin your application. Why Join? Emerging Leaders of Pakistan (ELP) is a highly selective program that inspires, empowers, and connects emerging young leaders from across Pakistan. The Fellowship facilitates sustainable idea exchange among participants and with the broader community in Pakistan, the region, and the world by bringing together like-minded individuals who are working to create positive change within their communities and country. Program participants are selected from diverse backgrounds, including geography, religion, ethnicity, and gender, which fosters the discussion of both the triumphs and challenges they face as leaders working in different capacities to bring about social change. Working with one another, Fellows develop a support system through the sharing of ideas and practices. The Fellowship blends opportunities for personal development while providing young Pakistani leaders the chance to build long-term collaborative relationships and learn from one another’s experiences. ELP Fellows also receive long term mentoring and support from partner organizations based in Pakistan. Criteria and Eligibility We are looking for successful, driven, diverse applicants from a broad range of personal and professional backgrounds who are passionate about bringing about social change in Pakistan. We want to know what you’ve done, what you’re currently doing, and what your aspirations are for the future. You are eligible for the fellowship if you are: - Between 18 and 30 years of age - A citizen of Pakistan, residing in Pakistan - Willing and able to travel to the United States - Able to communicate (written & oral) in English - No previous travel to North America or Europe Your application will be evaluated on the following criteria: - Demonstrated initiative impacting civil society in Pakistan - Demonstrated leadership experience - Articulation of future goals - Quality of response to essays and short answers - Quality of recommendations/references Application Instructions To apply for the fellowship, the following documents must be submitted: A completed online application (includes general information and responses to essay questions) Current CV/resume (no longer than 2 pages) containing the following information: - Full name - Email address and phone number - Education (if applicable) - Work history - Publications (if applicable) - Extracurricular activities (including leadership positions) - Honors and Awards (if applicable) - Two references from non-family members (name, title, affiliation, phone number, and email address) TWO letters of recommendation that at minimum address the following: - How long and in what capacity have you known the applicant? - Why do you recommend this applicant for ELP? - Describe some of the applicant’s strongest professional skills that s/he will be able to showcase and teach to other Fellows. - In what ways do you think the applicant will contribute to ELP? * Recommendations MUST be completed by someone familiar with your work and qualities as a leader. Family members and references listed on your resume cannot complete your recommendation. * All recommenders should email their letters directly to [email protected] Optional: You may submit 1-2 additional documents, not exceeding 5 pages total, in support of your candidacy. Failure to adhere to application guidelines will disqualify your application for consideration. Selection Process/Timeline: - March 1, 2014: Deadline to receive applications - April 2014: Phone/Skype interviews - May 2014: In-person interviews. Finalist selection. - October/November 2014: United States Visit Selected fellows will be required to participate in post-visit activities in Pakistan, including, but not limited to, speaking at public events, writing articles/blogs, and mentoring future ELP participants.
