THE 99.7mhz HASTY SAD JOURNALISM IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES OF MODERN ERA there is no denial of the fact that certain media houses in Ghana today are the pace setters of the industry.but that does not absorb them of falibility and infringing upon the dictates of the laws of journalism.journalism has always been built on certain cardinal principles which ought to be held in a higher esteem.these principles are numerous depending on an individuals orientation and objective.they include the following: *entertain *educate *inform *fairness *objectivity *unbiased reportage certain media houses have thrown these principles to the marines and doing exactly what pleases them and their pay masters if any at all.a certain serialisation of a certain uncompleted auditor general report is being aired by multi media, the operators of joy fm,multi tv digi box amongst some other radio stations.those the story has targeted have expressed their disgust and disapproval of this act.how can an uncompleted findings be the subject of media scrutiny for fairness sake?their disapproval was much exhibited and demonstrated through their legal solicitors who wrote to the concerned media house. i hasten to hastily ask:why is joy fm almost every now and then being asked to retract a story and go ahead to apologize?your guess might be as good as mine.amongst the victims of their image and character assassination journalism includes president mahama and ibrahim mahama in the famous loan story which they later had to apologize.highly reputable institutions such as zoomlion, rig, korle bu,stanbic bank and lastly sada legal solicitors had to write to them demanding apology and retraction.these are becoming too many and this is not good for the image of joy fm who i believe are doing some wonderful journalism.but as a human institution, once in a while, you get certain decisions and actions wrong. as a matter urgency,we need to strive hard to ensure nobody unduly suffers as a result of our actions, inactions and utterances.fairness should be the guiding principle in all that we do since what is good for the goose ought to be good for the grander as well.i dont believe in acting to equalize an action either justifiably or not.we need to be fair to all manner of people and institutions irrespective of our differences and biases against them.a reputable medium ought not to be found to be retracting and apologizing after doing stories on regular basis.the more it happens, the more your credibility is thrown to the dogs.media houses must try hard to guard against these acts which are retrogressive to our societies.
