THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION. The world is filled with troubles today. Troubles ranging from insecurity of lives, untimely death, famine, violence among nations, natural and man-made disaster facing different countries in the world. All these troubles continue to happen despite our continuous prayers, scientific and technological advancement in the world today. The truth is that, Jesus made mention of all these troubles as signs to mark His return back into this world. Matt 24 vs 3-8. 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. Jesus said that even the righteous will suffer the great tribulation. Matt 24 vs 21-22. 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elects sake those days shall be shortened. What happened exactly which resulted to the destruction(desolation) in the earth today? Jesus gave the reason why all these will happen. He said that there was an abomination that resulted to the destruction in the world. Matt 24 vs 15. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, ( whoso readeth, let him understand: ). The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines Abomination and Desolation as follow. Abomination: a thing that causes disgust or hatred, or is considered extremely offensive. Desolation: state of a place that is ruined or destroyed and offers no joy or hope to the people. It is only sin that can lead to Abomination in Gods eyes. What then is the abomination that Jesus pointed to which prophet Daniel spoke about? Daniel 8 vs 11-13. 11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of the sanctuary was cast down. 12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. 13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? There in the book of Daniel, we saw that the truth was destroyed. What is the truth that was destroyed. John 17 vs 17. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. Psalms 119 vs 142. Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth. Truth refers to the word(commandments) meant for humans to obey. The duty humans owe God is obedience to Gods commandments and for this reason we were created. Eccle 12 vs 13. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. John 14 vs 15. If ye love me, keep my commandments. Ten basic commandments on which every other commandments were built upon were given to us to obey. These commandments were written by God Himself. Deut 5 vs 22. These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me. When a person fails to keep any of these commandments, it is said that such a person has committed sin. 1John 3 vs 4. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. So, where there is no law, there can never be sin. Rom. 4 vs 15. Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. I want to pick the fourth commandment and relate it to the present. The fourth commandment commanded us to keep the Seventh day holy by abstaining from servile work and go to the church for holy gathering and worship unto God. Exo. 20 vs 8-11. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Today, many of us have decided to be hypocritical and still dispute which day is the Seventh day that God commanded. I want to ask a question. How did the church know that Jesus resurrected on Sunday? Who told the church? Luke 24 vs 1. Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. Luke recorded that it was on the first day of the week they went to the grave and did not find the body of Jesus there. The celebration of Jesus is done on a Sunday(first day of the week) because of what Luke recorded. It was a day before the first day of the week(Saturday) that the disciples of Jesus obeyed the fourth commandment and not on the first day of the week(Sunday). Luke 23 vs 52-56 with emphasis on vs 56. 52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. 53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. 54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. 55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. 56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. Up till now, some believers still hold on to the LIE that the day Jesus resurrected has changed the holy day from the Seventh day(Saturday) to the first day(Sunday). Did Jesus commanded the church to change to change the holy day to the day He resurrects? The answer is No! How did Jesus lived his life on earth? Keeping of the Sabbath was a custom and part of the way He lived His life. Luke 4 vs 16 and 31. 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days. Even after Jesus resurrected and ascended into heaven, the holy day never changed. Paul and his company kept the Sabbath. Acts 17 vs 2. And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Acts 13 vs 13-16 and 42-44. 13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. 14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. 15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. 16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience. 42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. 43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. We saw in the last quotation that the next gathering was not done the next day or a day after the next day rather, they waited for the next Sabbath in accordance with the commandments. So, the death of Jesus never changed the holy day. What is the importance and uniqueness of this fourth commandment? When God gave the ten commandments, He chose the fourth commandment(Seventh day rest) as His Sign(Mark) between Himself and anybody who wants to truly worship God. He said that the Seventh day Sabbath(rest) is an EVERLASTING(PERPETUAL) COVENANT. A covenant that was never meant to be broken. Exo. 31 vs 13-17. 13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. 14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. We saw there in Exodus that the penalty for breaking the fourth commandment was death. The world of today is passing through a death sentence from God because of the abomination the world committed by breaking the fourth commandment. When Prophet Isaiah prophesied about the time the earth will face great distress, he said something about the EVERLASTING COVENANT. Let us see what he said. Isaiah 24 vs 4-6. 4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. 5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. Isaiah said that the earth is desolate because of the everlasting covenant(Gods Sabbath) that the people of the world have broken. The world will not know peace unless they return unto God. Rev 6 vs 4. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. The first step of returning unto God is by being loyal to the mark of God(Seventh day) which is the mark of true worship. The Seventh day rest(Saturday) is the mark of God. When the reign of the beast came, the man of sin(POPE) changed the mark of God to the MARK OF THE OF BEAST(SUNDAY). Anyone who goes to church on Sunday has received the mark of the beast and has rejected the mark of God(Saturday rest). What I am trying to say is that the breaking of the EVERLASTING COVENANT(Saturday rest) which made the earth to be DESOLATE according to Isaiah is the same with the ABOMINATION that led to the desolation which Jesus pointed to. Escape for your life!!! Rev 18 vs 4-5. 4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. I expecting your questions. God bless you!
