THE ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN (1948) An adventure Technicolor - TopicsExpress

THE ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN (1948) An adventure Technicolor romance film Directed by the great Vincent Sherman. With Errol Flynn, Viveca Lindfors, Robert Douglas, Alan Hale. Many Flynn fans consider this film a favorite. The film is meant to be a parody on the life of Don Juan and also of Errol Flynn as they were both womanizers. Film is highly amusing. The film was originally to be scored by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, however, production of the film was postponed until 1947, by which time Korngold had retired from scoring motion pictures. He was therefore replaced by Max Steiner. Max wrote to Korngold and said I want score this film as a tribute to you. Amazingly Steiner copied the sound of Korngolds music. When you hear the score , you think Korngold. Vincent Sherman said he was very happy that Flynn was prepared and showing up for work during the first half of the film, then a bad review of Flynns film ESCAPE ME NEVER came in. and destroyed him in a way. He began missing days, showing up drunk, never on time. So sad. Film went way over budget. At the end of the film, the young woman in the coach asking Don Juan for directions is Flynns wife, Nora Eddington. The film won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, Color (Leah Rhodes, Travilla and Marjorie Best) and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction-Set Direction, Color (Edward Carrere, Lyle Reifsnider). Highly enjoyable film.
