THE ARREST OF A KOP In Spring of 1989, 96 FOOTBALL fans lost - TopicsExpress

THE ARREST OF A KOP In Spring of 1989, 96 FOOTBALL fans lost their lives and the world mourned deeply. We didnt care then what club they supported, we dont care now. Liverpool Football Club was supported immensely by some of their fiercest rivals through that time. One such rival would go on to win a dozen league titles under Sir Alex Ferguson. Liverpool would go on to replace their coach a million times. Graceful. Considerate. Calm. Such were the words that have been used in describing Liverpool fans. It was impossible to argue. But one good English Premiership season for Liverpool, one worse than horrible season for Manchester United, and every opposition fan would see the true colors of the Kop. Oh, what success does to man! Obviously, football is a sport; and in any sport, poor performances will have you laughed at, as Chelsea were when John Terry slipped in Moscow to drag United back into the 2008 Champions League, and when they fell at Stamford Bridge to Athletico Madrid, but it was within reason, for no statue was erected at United in Terrys honour. It is reason that however appears to have no place in Liverpools books now, and grace has gone out the window. The epitome of Liverpools unfortunate amnesia of their difficult twenty-or-so years is a very very bad joke that stands some 11 feet tall at the Anfield gates - a statue of David Moyes with the inscription, David Moyes... For services to Liverpool Football Club. Moyes United have had a very forgettable season, yes, and I have taunted my United comrades GREATLY, but again there is such a thing as temperance. Our dear friends have forgotten that which was shown them by millions of opposition fans in 89, and over the years. For should Man U want to erect a statue for every failure Liverpool has had for a coach over these 20 years, Old Trafford would need to be brought down, and still, there wouldnt be space enough. Such was the irony on the day they put up that statue that their very own captain, who had echoed severally the need to avoid any slip-ups, tumbled and again allowed Jose Mourinhos Chelsea to have a very unlikely say in how this seasons title was won, and where it headed to, whether Anfield or The Etihad. That Chelsea game was probably Liverpools most important game in a decade. It was not even Chelseas most important game that week since they had Athletico Madrid in the champions League, as observed by a football fan on twitter. I need to however state my recognition of the many Liverpool fans I have encountered, who have not lost touch with their reputation for being some of the most graceful football fans on earth. Hopefully they would, by all means, continue to troll opposition in a manner that does not open themselves up to grave ridicule. In the meantime, seeing as Gerrard has served Chelsea with great dedication by handing them some very memorable victories and a couple of trophies, maybe they should consider raising a statue in West London; Steven Captain Sliptastic Gerrard... For services to Chelsea Football Club. And inbetween time, Willian will continue to dance agbadza on the goal line at Anfield while waiting for Gerrard to get up. Congratulations to City.. Better luck next 100 years Liverpool!!
