THE BAD BOYS : Isiah Thomas (ZEKE), Joe Dumars (Joe D), Bill Lambeer, Rick Mahorn, Vinnie Johnson (The Microwave), Dennis Rodman (The Worm), John Salley (The Spider), Mark Aguire, James Edwards ( Buddah), and others coached by the great Chuck Daley also known to us Detroiters as Daddy Rich. Remember them!? They were the subject last night on ESPN 30 for 30. Watching it last night brought back so many great childhood memories. I know they were hated by the rest of the country but to me and other kids ,who grew up in Detroit during the late 80s early 90s, they were our heros. Zeke and the boys were blue collar, hard nosed, physical, in your face, made you pay for it if you talked trash and when faced with adversity they rose to the challenge and became champions. They were, and still are, the toughest team Ive seen on the court. I have to admit my face lit up with glee, and I laughed with joy, when they showed highlights of Lambeer, Mahorn and Rodman shoving around and laying the smack on Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley and other big names. There wasnt a big name star those three didnt punk out. And you know what? We loved them for it. I was also reminded how truly great Isiah and Joe D were, when they showed how Isiah scored 25 points, on a badly sprained ankle, during the 3rd quarter of the 1988 NBA championship, and how Joe D played his heart out during the 89 finals when he found out his father had passed away. Michael Jordan has stated that if it werent for The Bad Boys I never would have had the success I had later my career and that Joe Dumars was the tough man I ever played against. Thats who the Bad Boys were: Blue Collar and Not Flash, Tough as Nails but Humble, and Gritty and Hard Working. Just like the city they represented DETROIT MI. This documentary reminded me just why I loved those guys. They will always be in our hearts. BAAADD BOOYSS!!!.... BAAADD BOOYSS!!!
