THE BEST OF CINGATH………. “Ran thin ce deer hoc a man lueth, en e jam e wet pieng tong ran nyiec….” (youtube/watch?v=QdQhJAIA32E). Cingath Mading hails from Abang, Kolnyang Payam, Bor County. His songs are works of genius and of unparalleled craftsmanship. His mastery of the Dinka language is unsurpassed, and his use of similes is exemplary. Cingath is also a war hero. In 1990, when the SPLA ran out of men to fight the war, Dr. Garang sent Jok Reng Magot to the Dinka Bor villages to recruit young men into the SPLA. Cingath was recruited into what became Koriom-2 battalion. In one of the SPLA battles in the jungle of the Equatoria, Cingath lost his eye. Disabled, he returned to civilian life where he has been entertaining people ever since. His voice is still untainted. Cingath wasn’t the only Dinka Bor celebrity who was recruited into Koriom-2, other legendary wrestlers such as Mabior But of Makuach Payam, and Panalei of Kolnyang Payam, were also recruited, along with other thousands of young men. These later formed the bulk of the famous military campaigns such as the Bright Star Campaign (BSC), Operation Jungle Storm (OJS), and the famous assault on Juba in 1992, and other battles leading up to the CPA. Mabior was martyred in Mareng in 1992 when his unit held up a SAF contingent, which was bring reinforcement to Pibor. Like he would a wrestling arena, Mabior dominated the battle arena with his PKM machine gun until the enemy tank bulldozed him in the middle of the road in Mareng, Anyidi Payam. This country, which has taken the jewels of our community, is now being selfishly sacrificed at the altar of egocentrism and unrestrained bout of jealousy by those who feel entitled to leadership.
